exiftool example add keyword to all directories

The folder keywording will ease my transition to LR considerably. Yes, I believe most of my images have XMP sidecars as they've been organized in Adobe Bridge but are now (soon, after keywording them) ready to be added to Lightroom and futher organized there. If you did have sidecars, perhaps a text editor could allow you to batch change those. I thought I had used XNview a while back on my Mac but the current website appears only to have a Windows version. Perhaps I've misunderstood the script you're referring to but I believe it adds the actual drive path to the image and adds that as a keyword? I just want the folder's name to be added to the image.

I don't mind if it's for use in the Finder, Lightroom or whatever as long as it's simple to use. I don't think Automator et al has much in the way of tools for editing IPTC. It was surprising to us that although there are tons of batch renamers for photo files, there isn't much in the way of batch exif editors. I was involved in a discussion recently, perhaps on Macrumors, about the need to use a variable in changing metadata and I think he had to write a script to use with exiftool. Or you could exiftool from the command line. I'm also not sure if it can do sidecars, but I don't think so. Not sure if it can do batches, but it's pretty easy.

Then XNView it has a function in the IPTC editor to add filename or folder name. If you don't like the parent folders being there as keywords just delete them he designed it to err on overinclusion.) (BTW it is pretty easy to use just select image and click it.

Oops, sorry I assumed Lightroom script was OK you mentioned plugin. Perhaps this could somehow be done in Applescript or Automator? Thanks, I'll look into it but am still interested in a ready to use script which only adds the folder name to the keywords (and not overwriting any keywords already there in the file).
